Music - DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER

Sabe aquelas músicas que marcam nossas vidas? Pois bem.
A música em questão é “don’t look back in anger”.

[ENGLISH JOKE] Water and wine

Water and wine
In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) bacteria found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of Poop.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine (or rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health.

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of shit.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information: I'm doing it as a public service.

Vocabulary Help
  • boil - ferver
  • carefully - cuidadosasmente
  • drink (drink, drank, drunk) - beber
  • feces - fezes
  • full of shit - cheio de m...
  • poop - fezes
  • talk stupid - falar como bobo
  • trial - experimento
  • wine - vinho

Dexter (TV series)

Dexter is an American television drama series that centers on Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a bloodstain pattern analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who moonlights as a serial killer.

The show debuted on October 1, 2006, on Showtime and the fifth season ended on December 12, 2010. As of December 2, 2010, the show has been renewed for a sixth season. Set in Miami, the show's first season was largely based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, the first of his series of Dexter novels. Subsequent seasons have evolved independently of Lindsay's works. It was adapted for television by screenwriter James Manos, Jr., who wrote the pilot episode.

Dexter structures his killing around "the Code of Harry", a body of ethics and procedures devised by his adoptive father Harry Morgan (who was a Miami cop) to make sure Dexter never gets caught and to ensure that Dexter kills only other killers. Harry also trained Dexter in how to interact convincingly with other people despite his dissociative mental illness, which Harry believed to be sociopathy, arising from Dexter witnessing the brutal murder of his biological mother, Laura Moser. As an adult, Dexter has largely escaped suspicion (with some exceptions) by being genial and generous and maintaining generally superficial relationships. However, his attachment to his foster (and ultimately adoptive) sister, Debra, his girlfriend (later wife), Rita, his stepchildren, Astor and Cody, and later his biological son, Harrison, have all complicated his double life and made him question his need to kill. In fact, in the first season, newly-found memories of his mother's murder set in motion the slow but steady humanization of Dexter, progressing further with each season, as Dexter begins to experience a variety of emotions for the first time in years.

In February 2008, edited reruns began to air on CBS. The series has enjoyed wide critical acclaim and popularity. Season 4 aired its season finale on December 13, 2009 to a record-breaking audience of 2.6 million viewers, making it the most-watched original series episode ever on Showtime. Michael C. Hall has received several awards and nominations for his portrayal of Dexter, including a Golden Globe. The series was picked up by Showtime for a sixth season, which was billed as not being the final season, leaving possibilities open for a seventh.

MÉTODOS DE ENSINO DE LÍNGUA INGLESA (The Direct Method)

Kids lesson (direct method)

Atualizando...

About the role of the teacher (Audio-Lingual Method):

The teacher is like an orchestra leader, directing and controlling the language behavior of her students. She is also responsible for providing her students with a good model for imitation. Students are imitators of the teacher’s model or the tapes she supplies of model speaker. They follow the teacher’s directions and respond as accurately and as rapidly (Larsen-Freeman 2010, p. 45)

What is the nature of student-teacher interaction?

There is student-to-student interaction in chain drills or when students take different roles in dialogs, but this interaction is teacher-directed. Most of the interaction is between teacher and students and is initiated by the teacher. (Larsen-Freeman 2010, p. 46)

How does the teacher respond to student errors?

Student errors are to be avoided if at all possible through the teacher’s awareness of where the students will have difficulty and restriction of what they are taught to say. (Larsen-Freeman 2010, p. 47)

Larsen-Freeman, D. (2010). Techniques and principles in language teaching. Oxford: Oxford University Press.

Lesson planning: very short observations about the importance of planning the lessons.

by Bruno Coriolano de Almeida COSTA

It is known that teaching is not only a question of teaching rules, graphics, how to use maps and the likes. Moreover, it is much more than simply standing in front of the classroom and faces an audience hungry for knowledge.

Some teachers, with experience or not, seem to have an ability to think on their feet, which allows them to believe that they do not need to plan their lessons. However, most teachers go on preparing lessons throughout their careers, even if the plans are very informal. It is said that teaching needs preparation. It is, teachers must prepare and guide students into the path of success. In addition, authentic teachers need to observe and deal with an amount of details.

Firstly, teachers have to adapt the lessons to their students’ realities; in language classes, it is not different from any other kind of classes, students expect their teachers to be creative and plan their lessons.
One thing that teachers should consider is that students will realize if the lessons were not planned before and it can show the image that the teacher does not care about his/her job. Unfortunately, it happens more frequently than we think.

There is no doubt the lesson plans are important in teaching. When planning, we, teachers, should observe students’ needs and possible problems that may happen; and think about the tools we are going to use in advance. In addition, teachers are supposed to arrive earlier in the classroom in order to check if the equipment and the likes are really available that day.

[English Joke] Creation

Creation

God is sitting in Heaven when a scientist says to Him, "Lord, we don't need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to create life out of nothing. In other words, we can now do what you did in the 'beginning'."

"Oh, is that so? Tell me..." replies God.

"Well,” says the scientist, "we can take dirt and form it into the likeness of You and breathe life into it, thus creating man."

"Well, that's interesting. Show Me."

So the scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil.

"Oh no, no, no..." interrupts God, "Get your own dirt."

O primeiro desses métodos é o “Silent Way”.

Sobre o Silent Way.
