PRONUNCIATION POINT. -ED - PAST SIMPLE.

Para formar o passado dos verbos irregulares, acrescenta-se “-ed” à sua forma básica. A pronúncia, porém, frequentemente gera confusão, porque na verdade existem três sons finais diferentes: /Id/, /d/ e /t/. Mas, para identificá-los, temos alguns macetes. A pronúncia dos verbos terminados com /t/ ou /d/ têm o som /Id/, exemplo: needed /ni:dId/, wanted / wantId/. Se um verbo termina com uma vogal ou um som sonoro (ou seja, se você sente a vibração do som na garganta) o som final é /d/: served, opened /aupand/. Para os verbos terminados com um som surdo (sem vibração na garganta), o som final é /t/ como em watched /wat ʃt/ e worked /w3:kt/.
