CREATING THE CHARACTERS OF YOUR BOOK (OR STORY)

That’s undoubtedly one of the most important things in your book. You must create some characters (or at least one).

Let’s see what we can do. Once again, don’t feel afraid of stealing or borrowing from your favorite writer’s characters or some favorite actor’s traits.

First things first: Is your character an animal, human or something else? You don’t have to make sense in a literal way, remember?

Is your character a woman?

How does she look like?

LET ME ASK YOU SOME QUESTIONS:

Is she blonde or brunette?

Does she have short hair?

What does she do? Is she a cop?

Does she have superpowers?

Where does she live? Does she live under the water; in an alternative world?

Or does she live in a normal neighborhood?

Does she run like a crazy woman?
Okay, maybe she runs with a white dog in her arms?
Does the dog have superpowers? Lol

No, wait. Does she live in outer space? Is she connected to someone? (maybe George Clooney?) Lol

Oh, no. she is a gorgeous woman! She dresses like a modern lady:

… but maybe she puts her makeup and scares people in the evening. Maybe just for fun… lol or maybe she fights crime. Yes, she wants to save the whole world.

No. wait. I know it. She is a very traditional woman. she's an ordinary girl. She wears long dresses...

…or she walks completely naked around the city.

Or maybe, she’s just a cowgirl.

Or Batman’s mother.

Or she’s just like Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, who starts as a man and finishes as a woman.

Let’s forget about the jokes (at least for a while), but once you have decided who your main character is, you will have to give them (or her) life.
Next thing is: what places does she visit? Where does she live? What kind of dreams does she have? What tools does she use?
Use your imagination: Include everything you would like her to do as if it has already happened (in real life, for instance). Take the qualities of your favorite people, friends, relatives, or even your enemies. Yes, enemies! Why not?
Most important things: when you are writing a story, you should actually try to let your readers know who your main character is in his world.
List things they do: hobbies, qualities, obsessions, etc.

I hope you liked it. See you next time!

GOOGLE PLAY…PLAYING WITH US.

I have quite recently found a blog about technology, Google things and the like. In my free time, I always try to relax in a way that I can always learn a thing or two.

If you have nothing better or more productive to do right now, take a look at those “tricks” here:

Type elgoog on Google and you will see an “inverted mirror”:

Do you want to play a game (An old game)?  Type atari breakout:

Enough, enough… the game is too boring? Okay, then. Now you should type Do a barrel roll. Let’s see what happens.

Okay. Now we have wasted way too much free time. I have to go now. I’m reading a book and I have no time for things like those ones. Jesus… Google stuff, really? Lol.

THE PROBLEM WITH REALITY IS IT’S SO EASY TO SEE.

Here I am again. Now, let’s open another door, okay? Don’t be afraid of trying new things.

It takes extra effort and imagination to explore your own mind in order to write a story. Sometimes you may want to write about reality, but sometimes you may not.

It is terrible when you want to write about something, but you have no idea about the subject! All you can do is try to explore the innumerable subjects that are possible. You can write about technology in your stories. Many writers have imagined that. It is known that in the near future, technology, or the progress in technology, will be almost spooky, as smartphones seem to do incredible things. Maybe they will read their owner’s mind, I don’t know!

How about this: start writing about the way you see the future. It doesn’t have to make sense in a literal way, remember?

Let’s practice a little bit. Write five lines about the way you see the future, say, in ten years’ time. Envision something radically new. Mention all technology available in that future.

NEVER FORGET: You have permission to borrow and steal from other people’s idea of the future. Use theirs for inspiration in order to build your own world. Take George Orwell’s 1984 as an example.

[Writing] WRITING IS CRYING OUT TO BE SHAPED, OR CREATED.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you might have realized that I have been writing about writing. That’s right, writing, or the art of creating or even shaping the wor(l)d around us.
I’m a literature lover. I love reading and writing about everything. I have my favorite genre, writer, poem, book, short story and so on. I bet you the reader have the same things. It’s quite difficult to meet someone who does not have a favorite book. Even if you have read only one book, you have a favorite one, right? Even if you don’t like reading, I bet you have read at least one book in your life. (If you have never read a book in your life, let me tell how miserable I imagine your life is).
I’m absolutely certain—especially if you are an English language teacher or learner—that you have, at least once in your life, considered the idea of taking the risk of trying to write a letter or a short message in English. (I’m obviously taking into account that you are not an English native speaker).
I would like to challenge you guys. Have you ever considered the idea of writing about your world? Let me make myself clear here: I don’t expect you to make sense of everything. At least not in a literal way.
Your imagination might let you find out incredible things. Especially things that you could have never imagined before.
I will take the risk of making some mistakes – both in my writing and ideas – but I don’t care. I don’t give a damn! As I’m writing a new book right now, I need to let my thoughts just go away, and if they find home in some of my readers’ mind, I will be very happy!
Maybe some parts of my writing sound completely ridiculous and absurd, or even strange and magical. I don’t know. Once again, I don’t care! I will try to write as much as I can and make the most of my words.
In my next post, I will be writing about creating your own writing (style). I hope you join me in this long and winding road. This magical journey. Can I count on you?

P.s.: The aim of my next post about the subject mentioned before is rather simple: Keep My Mind Active in a Child-Like Way.

OPEN THIS FIRST DOOR AND FIND OUT WHAT I HAVE IN MY WOR(L)D.
